SACRED GEOMETRY WORKSHOP
WITH JOHN LLOYD AND KARL LORENZEN
FLOWERS AND ORGANIC FORMS
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2006. 1PM-5PM Admission: $40
This month's theme of Flowers and Organic Forms will be an exploration of how the idealized forms of Sacred Geometry manifest in nature. We will draw geometric shapes using a compass, straight edge, and pencil, and create three dimensional models of those shapes by folding and pinning together paper plates. By walking through this meditative process together, students experience first hand why the circle, square, triangle, and their endless variations have fascinated artists, scientists, and philosophers for centuries.
This program is different from most Sacred Geometry classes in that we emphasize the hands-on experience of creating the shapes and patterns. Everyone has the chance to be directly involved. The material has been developed so that it is available to people at all levels of ability. No previous math or art experience is required. Participants should each bring a compass, straight edge, colored pencils or magic markers, and an 11"? x 14"? sketchbook. Some of these drawing materials will be available on site. Paper plates and bobby pins will be provided.
John Lloyd leads Sacred Geometry workshops at CoSM regularly. He has studied with John Michell, Michael Schneider, Gyorgy Doczi, and continues to study with Keith Critchlow, currently the world's leading authority on Sacred Geometry and architecture. He has taught at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY, The Cathedral of St John the Divine in NYC, Adelynrood Retreat and Conference Center in Massachusetts, and Incarnation Center in Connecticut. Karl Lorenzen, a professional artist, performing musician, and published poet, is co-presenting Sacred Geometry workshops in the NYC area. |
