ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Learn the meaning of Tarot cards by illustrating a few of your favorite card interpretations. Create your images using collage, hand drawn artistry, digital mediums or a combination. All levels of experience are welcome!

This workshop will deal primarily with the twenty-two Major Arcana cards of the tarot deck.
Each participant will be encouraged to choose up to three Major Arcana cards for completion. Those familiar with the deck are welcome to select a minor arcana card to explore, as well.

Books and tarot decks of various styles will be available for inspiration and browsing. Artists in this class are invited to select a tarot deck author/illustrator of their choice, or to originate their own image from their preferred interpretation of that card.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
The history of Tarot, the structure of the deck and symbolism embedded in its imagery will be covered in this workshop. Through hands-on activities, artists in this class will be guided through the process of creating Tarot cards, utilizing both artistic and symbolic elements of Tarot.

- Benefits of creating a personal deck: to enhance understanding and intuition.
- Breakdown of the Cards: of the Major Arcana, Minor Arcana, Court cards, and the four suits.
- Symbolism: Introduction to colors, elements, and images in Tarot.
- Examples of Tarot decks: a slideshow presentation of collaged decks from different artists, past and present.
- Examine Perry’s original Tarot creations: peruse his original decks and other favorites from his own collection for inspiration
- Printing Techniques: Learn various ways to print the cards you create.
- Card meanings: interpretations by a variety of Tarot creators.
- Card design tips: digital & hand-made techniques
- Hone your focus: Artists are encouraged to select 1-3 cards and create images using collage, hand drawing, digital artistry or a combination.
- Show & Tell: Artists will share and discuss the cards they have created.
- Tarot reading techniques: Brief overview of how to read the cards and perform simple Tarot spreads.

Participants are encouraged to continue card creating on their own once home. A private group chat will be established for everyone to share our continuing creations and exchange tips.
CoSM and Entheon are open weekly on Friday, Saturday & Sunday, 12pm - 6pm when CoSM Grounds close. Tuition includes a day pass during open hours to CoSM facilities and grounds on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Participants are welcome to extend their stay, from the Thursday before, to the Monday after the workshop.
YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
Perry Kroeger
Perry Arthur Kroeger is a visionary performer, writer, designer, videographer, and artist. A three time Broadway veteran, his theater art has been experienced both here in the United States and in the theaters of Copenhagen, Bangkok, and Moscow. For over 30 years he’s been an important part of The Growing Stage, The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey, where his sets, puppets, costumes, and graphic art can be seen. A student of The Vienna Academy of Visionary Art in Austria, he has been a featured live painter at Burning Man, and also at CoSM where he now lives in residence as an art assistant, decorator, and instructor. For many years he has specialized in psychic readings with his Classic Hollywood Tarot, a collage deck he created himself.

MATERIALS:

- Various magazines will be available for imagery
- Scissors
- Colored pencils
- Colored pens
Suggested Materials:
- Gather your own images for a unique selection of tarot cards, using pages from magazines, printed photos or royalty free images from books and the internet.
- Additional materials of your preference—watercolor, pens, pencils, etc.
- Optional: Review the 22 major and pick 1-3 cards to focus on, center your image materials around these cards.

Class sessions will take place in the MAGI Art Lab—Mystic Artists Guild International.
Participants are welcome to book an overnight stay in the Grey House, CoSM's Visionary Victorian guest house, as an immersive addition to this creative experience.
Accommodations in Grey House are offered in a variety of economies, in addition to the workshop fee. A 10% discount code is provided in your ticket confirmation email.
Participants are welcome to book rooms for the workshop, arriving as early as Thursday, August 20 and departing as late as Monday, August 24, 2026.
